3 Ways To Relax and Unwind

Between juggling a career, social life and other concerns, life can be stressful at times. It is important to have healthy outlets for releasing that stress so that you can maintain a sense of calm and emotional balance. Read on for three ways to relax and unwind that will enhance your life.

Meditation benefits both your physical and mental health. Taking a few minutes each day to close your eyes, clear your mind and focus on the breath leads to increased energy levels, improved mood and clearer thinking. All you need to get started is a quiet place to sit or recline, but you may find a meditation crystal set to be helpful.

This suggestion is intentionally broad. It doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself an artistic or creative person: Just using your hands to make something will help you to disconnect from whatever happens to be weighing on your mind. You can write a poem or short story, paint, knit, cook or bake. Working through an adult coloring book counts, too!

It doesn’t matter how you choose to move; engaging in any physical activity will help you to relax and de-stress. If you’re feeling antsy and anxious to burn off some nervous energy, a vigorous run or bike ride may be just what the doctor ordered. If, on the other hand, you’re exhausted after a difficult day, a restorative yoga practice or a walk may be a better fit.

If you have an especially demanding job and family life, you may feel as though you do not have time to engage in any of these practices. It is important to keep in mind, however, that you can’t pour from an empty cup: making time for regular self-care is essential. Even setting aside just ten to fifteen minutes a day is a great start.
