Spa 101: A Guide for Your First Spa Visit

You’ve looked at spa packages Napa CA for months and have finally decided now is the time to book a visit for yourself. All the terminology and protocol can be confusing to a first-timer, so here is a guide to help you enjoy your day of relaxation.

Advance Planning

When you call to make your appointment, advise the receptionist this is your first visit to a spa. He or she will take the time to answer any of your questions and explain your treatment options to you. If you are getting a massage, let the receptionist know if you have a preference for a female or male therapist. Take note of the suggested arrival time and the cancellation policy.

Before Treatment

Drink plenty of water to hydrate your body but avoid eating for an hour before or after a massage. It’s a good idea to leave any valuables at home even though most spas do have lockers for your belongings that lock. Arrive early to give your mind a chance to calm down before your treatment. You will change into a comfortable robe and slippers and be led to a quiet room to sip tea or water and unwind before your session.

During Treatment

Take a few deep breaths before your therapy begins and envision every muscle in your body relaxing. Talk to your therapist if you have a concern about the room temperature or amount of pressure he or she is using during the treatment. Relax and enjoy the experience.

After Treatment

When your treatment is over, take time to relax in the quiet room instead of rushing off. Consider spending some time exploring the other features of the spa. When you finalize your bill, add in a tip of 15% to 20% for your therapist.
